Asus negotiating a Windows Phone 8 license, hints at possible Padfone on Windows and stronger U.S. presence
Asus has been reluctant to adopt Windows Phone for its phones, but this could change soon as an Asus executive revealed to the Wall Street Journal that the company is in talks to license Microsoft’s mobile operating system.

What’s more interesting is that Asus vice president Benson Lin dropped a big hint towards a Padfone-like device, but running on Windows.

"With our Padfone concept, the phone plus tablet, I think it makes sense for Windows 8," Lin said.

Asus is well known for pioneering different form factors on Android where it brought to popularity the keyboard plus tablet combo with the Transformer series and the tablet-cum-phone Padfone.

Interestingly, Asus also mentioned Windows 8 rather than Windows RT as its platform of choice. We should mention, though, the Asus executive was vague about those plans, saying there is “no target timeline.”

Additionally, Asus is also talking to US carriers about bringing its devices stateside by 2014. Here’s to hoping.
